Mainland game industry has been in trouble in the past year
According to the data, there are currently more than 300,000 game-related companies in China with a registered capital of less than 10 million yuan. As of July 2021, a total of 14,000 game-related companies have been canceled. It is worth mentioning that in 2020, 18,000 game companies cannot go into operation because of difficulties.
In fact, the dismissal of staff, disbanding the game development team of publishers has been a “common story” in the face of challenges from the market as well as the tightening of local authorities. Some employees of the company revealed to the media that the company was always in trouble and they had to leave.
Mainland media in the game industry said that in the past two months, small and medium-sized game manufacturers have regularly laid off employees, facing difficulties in business operations, the main reason being that they depend on too much on old products and lack of high quality games. However, there are a few companies that have survived and are continuing to improve their performance.

Recently, the Regulatory Convention on Combating Game Addiction and Game Industry Self-Discipline was signed. Currently, 411 Chinese game companies in Beijing, Shanghai and Guangdong have signed agreements to combat game addiction up to now.
Wang Biao, director of the Digital Publishing Institute of the Chinese Academy of Journalism and Publishing, said China’s national anti-addiction, real-name authentication platform has been completed.
Currently, nearly 95% of products of mid-range enterprises and above have an additional age rating notice to help protect the health of players in the mainland.
