Tokyo Theater showing movies on 8 screens at 12am after the first 2 screens sold out in a few minutes
Kodoani.com – About 15,000 people watched Gekijō-ban Jujutsu Kaisen 0 (Jujutsu Kaisen 0 Movie) anime hits theaters at the earliest of 58 screens at midnight on Friday.
The distributors originally planned to show the film at midnight on just 28 screens in 14 theaters in Kyoto and Miyagi (localities linked to the story), along with Tokyo, Osaka, Aichi, Fukuoka and Hokkaido. However, tickets were sold out on the first day of the sale, so theaters finally had to expand the number of screens. In particular, Tokyo’s TOHO Shinjuku cinema was originally planned to only have two theaters, but tickets sold out in minutes. In the end, the movie hit midnight on eight screens.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, very few movies have been shown at midnight in Japan in the past two years.
The film opens in Japan on Friday. Each moviegoer will receive a booklet “Jujutsu Kaisen #0.5 Tokyo Prefectural Jujutsu High School”, while supplies remain. The theater is distributing 5 million volumes of books. The film also has IMAX screenings.
Megumi Ogata is voicing the main character Yuta Okkotsu:
Kana Hanazawa is voicing the character Rika Orimoto. The main character in the film’s story, and childhood friend of the main character Yuka. The two had promised to marry each other, but Rika died in a car accident and became a special level vengeful cursed spirit. The character is seen below in her human form and cursed spirit.
The 24th and final episode of the Jujutsu Kaisen television anime ended in March with the announcement that a series will hit theaters this winter. The film is based on Gege Akutami’s prequel manga Jujutsu Kaisen 0 Tokyo Toritsu Jujutsu Koto Senmon Gakko (Jujutsu Kaisen 0: Tokyo Prefectural Jujutsu High School), with MAPPA in charge of production and distribution by TOHO.
Viz Media released the Jujutsu Kaisen 0 manga in January, and it describes the story:
Yuta Okkotsu is a stressed high school student with a serious problem – his childhood friend, Rika, has turned into a Curse and won’t leave him alone. Since Rika is no ordinary Curse, his plight is noticed by Satoru Gojo, a teacher at Jujutsu High, a school where fledgling exorcists learn to fight Curses. Gojo convinces Yuta to enroll, but can he learn enough to confront the Curse that haunts him?
Jujutsu Kaisen TV anime premieres in May 2020.
Akutami launched the main manga in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine in March 2018.
