Let’s review the classic moments of the Attack on Titan manga when it was made into an anime.
11. Eren freed from the chains

Attack on Titan Final Season 2 has no shortage of gory scenes, but Eren’s escape from Zeke’s chains is truly impressive. After Zeke orders Ymir to begin his genocide, a panicked Eren struggles to free himself as Ymir heads towards the Coordinates.
In both the manga and anime, Eren is chained facing away from the Coordinates. MAPPA corrected Eren’s position by pulling his arm back with a leash, instead of staying by his side like in the manga, as he was moving his way out of the shackles.
Another great addition with Eren’s severed finger in the sand
12. Eren declares that he will destroy the world

At the end of episode 80, Eren was able to connect with all of Ymir’s People through the power of the Ancestor Titan. Here, he declares his intention to protect the people of his homeland, the island of Paradis, and destroy everything out there.
13. Gabi saves Kaya

Gabi was hated by many AoT fans mainly because she killed Sasha. However, Attack on Titan Final Season part 2 shows that Gabi being “popular” by Marley’s teachings has slowly opened up to her worldview and understood the complexities of the world they live in.
She redeemed herself in episode 81 by risking her life to save Kaya to mend their relationship. Here, MAPPA really excels by improving the facial expressions and character design.
The scenes are red, possibly due to the effects of Vibration – an interesting detail not found in the manga
14. Annie wakes up

After more than 4 years lying in the crystal block, Annie suddenly woke up at the end of episode 81. This scene was shown excellently in the anime version.
15. Armin and Connie’s “Treason”
Image from manga chapter 128 (left) and anime episode 85 (right)
Episode 85 ends with an emotional climax as Armin and Connie must confront Daz and Samuel, both of the 104th Training Corps. While battling each other for control of the ship, Connie makes a decision. the pain is to kill Daz and Samuel.
This segment of the manga has been faithfully adapted into the anime, although the scenes in the anime are more emotional. Again, even without the dialogue, MAPPA uses extreme close-ups to convey Armin’s inner turmoil.
The additional image shows Connie’s painful expression after he shot Daz and just before turning to Samuel. Instead of screaming when shooting Samuel like in the manga, Connie screams after he kills his teammates.
16. Falcolation of Jaw Titan
Image from manga chapter 129 (left) and anime episode 86 (right)
The scene of Falco turning Titan Jaw is really eye-catching. After transforming, Falco transforms into a bird-like creature with beak-like jaws.
MAPPA nailed Falco’s Titan Jaw design by amplifying the features of a bird that was radically different from his predecessor.
17. Female Titans and Armor “reunited”
Image from manga chapter 128 (left) and anime episode 85 (right)
After years of hiatus, the Armored Titan and the Female Titan finally fought side by side. Unlike in the manga, which shows two Marley warriors facing each other, the anime adaptation chose to focus on each Titan by giving them a solo frame.
It’s been nine years since anime fans last saw the Female Titan in action, but Annie is just as versatile as ever.
Special thanks goes to MAPPA for its snappy yet precise ODM animations and superb camera angles, elevating the entire fight sequence.
18. Mikasa defeats the Yeagarists
Image from manga chapter 129 (left) and anime episode 86 (right)
Mikasa is one of the most powerful warriors in the series, but it’s not until scenes like this that we get to fully appreciate her true skills. In the manga, Isayama shows how agile and vivacious Mikasa is, the author dedicates an entire frame to her slaughtering a bunch of unnamed Yeagerists.
To show off her prowess in close combat, MAPPA added an image of Mikasa beheading a Yeagarist, thrusting his lifeless body into another opponent, then stabbing them through. Finally, she detonated the Thunder Spear, blowing their bodies to shreds.
Standing in the rain of blood, Mikasa turned around with a cold gaze that was the perfect display of her unparalleled skill and ability.
19. Happier times in Marley
Image from manga chapter 123 (left) and anime episode 87 (right)
The final episode of Attack on Titan Season 4 Part 2 begins with a flashback of Mikasa’s happy times. In the manga, flashbacks take place when Tremor is first activated.
In the anime, MAPPA chose to rearrange the sequences, so that Mikasa remembers their expedition on the ship.
From enjoying ice cream to trying to feed the vehicles with carrots.
In the animated version, Eren looks much happier spending the night partying with friends without worries.
20. Vibration
Image from manga chapter 130 (left) and anime episode 87 (right)
Episode 87 shows Eren leading the massive army of Wall Titans across the sea to destroy humanity beyond the island. The global allies waged a weak war against the giant Titans helplessly.
The final scenes are perhaps one of the most faithful manga-to-anime adaptations in the series, as MAPPA perfects the scenes with superior animation, visual direction, and soundtrack.
Even the choice of soundtrack reminds us that the war against the giants is far from over, but has evolved to become much more complex and multifaceted.
