MMR: is a number used by Riot to determine a player’s skill level in League of Legends
Smurf: refers to a player with high skill level who uses low level accounts to win against people who are inferior in skill.
Facing players whose level is completely superior to yours, while both having the same rank has always been a familiar experience for many people. The “gods” of the Master, or the Great Master, hide in lower-ranked accounts known as smurfs by gamers.
The smurf problem has always been a headache for Riot Games. To complicate matters further, these smurf players will fight with another player to raise their rank. Right from March of this year, the “father” of League of Legends has paid more attention to this issue and set out a solution to turn Solo/Duo Queue into Singles only.
Currently, Riot has “released” a new change in the Solo/Duo ranked system in patch 12.15. This change does not completely remove the ability to pair together, but does create a limit to it:
“Pairing with highly qualified teammates is really a big advantage compared to other players, as you know currently, players at Master level and above cannot participate in pairing with other players. other. However, this only applies to their current rank. With this change, we want that limit to apply to the player’s MMR score itself,” Riot shared.
“So from now on, players with higher MMR than Master won’t be able to compete in doubles, no matter if their current tier is lower than Master.”
This means that from now on, every time you enter a ranked match. The system will automatically calculate the number of MMR points through the way you perform in the match. And there comes a time when you or your “best ally” have a higher MMR than the Master level, then both will be forced to “separate” each other in the next Solo/Duo Ranked matches.
Riot also said that they have tested this change on Korean and North American servers in patch 12.10. And version 12.15 is the right time for them to apply it to all servers in the world
Conclude:
Hopefully, Riot’s solution this time will minimize the “accidental” situations of encountering smurfs. Players can rest assured against players of the same level as themselves since this 12.15 patch.
