In his will, Swedish scientist, businessman and philanthropist Alfred Nobel bequeathed his fortune to the establishment of the Nobel Prize. He specified which bodies were responsible for organizing the Nobel Prizes. When implementing the awarding, these organizations have just set up the process for deciding on the selection of recipients.
That process is carried out by the awarding committees in ways that are not entirely uniform, but the ultimate criterion remains to fulfill Alfred Nobel’s wish that the prize should be awarded to the person who “brings the greatest benefit to the community.” mankind”.
Timeline of the Nobel Prize in Physics
The first step of the awarding process is nomination. In September, invitations to nominations were sent out. The recipients of the invitations were members of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, members of the Nobel Prize Committee for Physics, Nobel Prize winners in Physics, professors and professors. Professors of Physics from universities and institutes of technology in Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden’s Karolinska Institute, together with selected top scientists. They will be the ones to recommend the Nobel Prize candidates.
No one is allowed to nominate themselves for the Nobel Prize in Physics. The names of the candidates as well as other nomination information are only released after 50 years.
January 31 of next year: End of nomination period.
From March to May, the Award Committee sends a preliminary list to selected experts for them to evaluate the work of the candidates.
In October, the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences selects the winners of the Nobel Prize in Physics by voting. Whoever votes for the majority becomes the winner of the Nobel Prize in Physics. This decision is final and cannot be appealed.
On December 10, the Nobel Prize in Physics Award Ceremony was held in Stockholm, Sweden. Prizes include medals, certificates and documents confirming the value of the prize in money. This year’s prize is 10 million Swedish krona, equivalent to about 22 billion Vietnamese dong.
