Disney Speedstorm got an action trailer shortly after Gameloft announced the postponement – the title is a Mario Kart competitor to their popular characters.
Disney Speedstorm has announced a new trailer, which doesn’t reveal any new gameplay but instead depicts an intense race that highlights some of the popular characters who are also counterpoints to the upcoming Mario Kart. The footage comes just days after Gameloft announced the postponement of Disney Speedstorm to 2023.
Disney Speedstorm was announced in early 2022 as a free-to-play racing game with familiar mouse characters for Xbox One and PS4, as well as PC. The game’s development is being developed by Gameloft owned by Vivendi – a company with a long track record of successful and long-term partnerships with Disney brands, as evidenced by projects like Disney Magic Kingdoms, Disney Getaway Blast and Disney Princess Majestic Quest. Racing titles are another of Gameloft’s areas of expertise, with the company on average producing more than one such title per year since the turn of the century, largely driven by the arcade racing series. Asphalt is famous worldwide with 15 parts to date.
The latest trailer for Gameloft’s newest racing game highlights the fact that Disney Speedstorm features nearly a century’s worth of characters from both Disney and the award-winning animation studio – Pixar. More specifically, the short commercial shows Mickey Mouse, Jack Sparrow, Fa Mulan and James P. Sullivan from Monsters Inc. Race against each other on a futuristic track, lit by neon lights. The track in the trailer is reminiscent of Neo Bowser city – also known as Koopa city in PAL regions – from the two most recent Mario Kart games, although it is most likely based on The Factory by Monsters Inc. has been confirmed as part of Disney Speedstorm.
Gameloft has so far confirmed more than 15 characters that will be coming to Disney Speedstorm at launch. Some of the most recognizable names on that list not featured in this latest trailer include Donald Duck, Goofy, Mowgli, Hercules, and Beast from Beauty and the Beast. Furthermore, Jack Sparrow won’t be the only character from the Pirates of the Caribbean series to appear in the game, with the developers having previously confirmed that Elizabeth Swann will also be playable.
Besides Disney Speedstorm, Gameloft is also currently developing Disney Dreamlight Valley – a free-to-play life simulation game with a relatively impressive cast of popular characters that launched on Game Pass in early access in September. The game is expected to be released in full at some point in 2023 after Gameloft completes the new Disney Dreamlight Valley content.
