Up three places on JP’s all-time box office chart
Kodoani.com – After passing Frozen over the weekend, The Super Mario Bros. Movie continues its mission to smash all records, or in this case, box office records, by becoming the second animated film to surpass $1.3 billion at the global box office.
In Japan, the plumber’s hometown, the Nintendo/Illlumination-produced film jumped three places to become the 37th highest-grossing film of all time in Japan.
As of June 4, in Japan, The Super Mario Bros. The movie grossed 10.96 billion yen (US$79.88 million) at the box office after 7.73 million tickets were sold. According to The Numbers, the film has earned US$1.3 billion worldwide. Only Frozen II with US$1.45 billion stands between the Italian plumber and first place on the global animation charts.
