Son Goal! is a Japanese manga series created by Japanese author Baba Tamio and published by Kadokawa Publishing House with the help of Kim Dong Publishing House with content about Vietnamese football. This is the first comic book about Vietnamese football produced and published by a Japanese publisher in cooperation with Kim Dong Publishing House.
Nguyen Vo Huyen Duong, representative of the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) in Japan and a liaison between Kadokawa publishing house and Vietnamese partners, said that the Vietnamese version of Son Goal was released in the market. Son Goal was created by Japanese artist Baba Tamio. The story is about the journey of a mixed-race boy, whose Vietnamese name is Son, in Vietnam. Son has a Brazilian father and a Vietnamese mother. Son went to this Southeast Asian country to study after his father moved here for work. In Vietnam, he met and became acquainted with a group of teenagers and helped their weak team become stronger.
Speaking at a meeting with Vietnamese Ambassador to Japan Vu Hong Nam in Tokyo, Mr. Aoyagi Masayuki, publishing director of Kadokawa, shared that with the help of Kim Dong Publishing House, Kadokawa built the manga series. With the hope that children of the two countries can find joy in sports and better understand teamwork. Through the appearance of famous places and landscapes in Vietnam in the series such as Dragon Bridge or the sea. My Khe and Kadokawa also want foreigners, including Japanese people, to better understand the country and people of Vietnam.
According to Mr. Masayuki, after completion, this publisher wants to send 1,000 books to Vietnamese children through the Vietnamese Embassy in Japan. The release of Son Goal will be an important event as Vietnam and Japan are preparing to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations at that time.
The comic series “Son Goal” is artist Baba Tamio’s wish for the future development of Vietnamese football.
