(Thethaovanhoa.vn) – Four out of five undersea fiber optic cables have been broken.
The Inter-Asia route (Intra Asia – IA) has been in trouble since January 28 due to a cable break at a location about 130 km from the Singapore landing station. This problem lost all international connection capacity from Vietnam to Singapore via IA.
Previously, from the beginning of 2023, the AAE, AAG, and APG routes also encountered problems and have not been fixed yet. With the failure of the IA line, the total number of broken submarine cables has increased to 4.
As reflected by some users, four out of five cable routes at the same time had problems, making it difficult to access the Internet to go internationally, affecting the work and life of many people. Especially at peak hours, activities that require high-speed Internet bandwidth such as playing online games and watching movies are most affected.
A representative of a network operator confirmed, “This is a force majeure incident and affects all Internet providers in Vietnam”.
Immediately after the incident, Vietnamese carriers took a number of rescue measures such as supplementing land-based cable resources, sharing loads between international links, and actively coordinating with other services. Internet like Facebook, TikTok, YouTube… to optimize traffic in cable directions.
Currently, network operators are working with international undersea fiber optic cable management units to be able to handle problems as quickly as possible.
