Recently, Crunchyroll has published the analysis data of the anime that have been released in 2021 on this popular entertainment platform. Accordingly, a total of 86 anime have aired on Crunchyroll in the past year and recorded impressive numbers in the isekai genre.
What surprised the audience the most was that about 20% of anime was in the isekai – reincarnation genre. This is a very surprising number, showing that the isekai genre is still growing extremely strongly in the past year. Currently, many new isekai anime projects are still being worked on. The world audience is also receiving isekai anime very positively, so the above number is still not the highest. For at least two more years, with sequels from Mushoku Tensei, Rise of the Shield Hero, and Moon Path Otherworldly, the isekai genre will still be at the forefront of the anime industry in Japan.
In addition to the above information, Crunchyroll also reported that of the 86 anime broadcasts, two thirds of the main characters are male. The number of anime with female protagonists accounts for only 30%. The remaining percentage belongs to “genderless”, a form of mainline that is quite new in recent years.
Also in the data provided by Crunchyroll, 47% of aired anime are adapted from manga, 20% are adapted from light novels, 17% are adapted from mobile games. Viewer age is also analyzed quite carefully to find out which age group the current anime audience focuses on. As expected, the teenage audience (from 13 to 18) accounted for 67%, the highest of all age groups. The number of children watching anime is lower than the number of adults in 2021.
It should be noted that the above parameters are all calculated based on anime released in 2021 on the Crunchyroll platform, so their accuracy is not absolute. However, there are a few things we can be sure of that the isekai genre is growing and the audience for anime is still mainly young people. This is understandable when reincarnating into another world, fulfilling the main character’s quests and dreams is always a topic that suits the personality of young people who like to pursue new things. and exciting adventures.
What do you think about accounting for 20% of all anime released in 2021, the isekai genre revived strongly with hit blockbusters? Will this continue in 2022? Please leave your comments!
