Dead Island 2 has been in development for the past 8 years and there have been many different studios taking on the role, but it seems that progress on this zombie game is still very slow. However, a recent leak revealed that Dead Island 2 was first announced in 2014, and will finally be released in 2022.
The original Dead Island, developed by Dying Light’s Techland and released in 2011, allowed gamers to play as survivors battling zombie hordes to escape the bloody beautiful island of Banoi. Dead Island 2 has had three different developers since development began, with Dambuster Studios taking the helm in 2019.
Serving as Techland’s most successful title, Dead Island puts equally emphasis on close-quarter combat and open-world exploration as players battle to escape a zombie outbreak. In the game, the player takes the role of one of four survivors, with co-op gameplay that allows a group of gamers to fight together against hordes of bloodthirsty zombies. First-person melee combat is complemented by randomly generated weapons, each with their own qualities and modifications. However, there are also certain types of zombies that possess special abilities, adding an element of fearsome randomness to each encounter. While Dead Island 2 was announced in 2014, troubled development plagued the title.
As Pocket-lint reports, the leaked details of Dead Island 2 seem to have come to light thanks to popular leaker and YouTuber Tom Henderson. In a recent video, Henderson stated that a Dead Island sequel is in stable development and will be announced soon. The title’s release date is expected to fall sometime in the fourth quarter of 2022, according to Henderson. The leak also claims to reveal some plot information about Dead Island 2, which will involve the player character’s plane crashing into Hollywood after a mid-air zombie outbreak.
While many fans are eagerly awaiting their chance to immerse themselves in Dead Island 2’s frenetic horror atmosphere, some gamers have actually experienced the first version of the title. In June 2020, a leaked first playable Buil of Dead Island 2 appeared on the internet, and interested gamers can play the raw version of the title for themselves. The leaked Build contains a lot of unadded content and lacks storyline, but it still gives a glimpse of what Dead Island 2 might hold when it’s officially released.
