The manga focuses on humanity's fight against terrorism from the abyss
Kodoani.com – In the May issue of Square Enix's Big Gangan magazine, it was revealed last Thursday that writer Makoto Fukami and artist Seigo Tokiya will launch a new manga titled Gakuen Sensuikan-tai: Mermaid Girls (School Submarine Fleet: Mermaid Girls) in the next issue on May 24. The manga will begin with a color opening page and will appear on the magazine's cover.
In the manga's story, extraterrestrial life, also known as Trench Walkers, have emerged, starting from Antarctica and walking on the ocean floor. Their goal is to transform the Earth to their liking, which includes raising sea levels by 70 meters, making Tokyo and many other population centers unlivable. They have also begun transforming Earth's surface water into what they call Nectar, “divine water”. People incompatible with Nectar have a high chance of dying when exposed to it. However, there are girls believed to be compatible with Nectar and they are recruited as marines in the war against the Trench Walkers, joining the new deep-sea frontline combat ships. The story revolves around Hiro Todoroki, who receives a message from his sister, a marine believed missing in action. The message asks Hiro to find a formidable marine named Kiriri Tsunoba. Although lost and confused, Hiro arrives at Masakado Girls' Academy's Submarine Unit with the intention of joining them.
