The final part of Attack on Titan will have many factions fighting each other for different reasons. Here’s a summary of who’s fighting whom and why.
Kodoani.com – Attack on Titan has come a long and winding road since the first season. Humanity’s struggle to survive the looming threat of man-eating giants has taken on all forms. The fight goes from man-vs-Titan to Titan-vs-Titan to man-vs-human and goes on alternating between all of them. There are even people who can switch between Titan and human forms to blur the border even further. Now, with the final season, things are coming to a head and all around is chaos. To help better understand the conflict, here’s an overview of everything that’s happened in Attack on Titan so far.
The original premise of Attack on Titan pretty simple. The last apparent human has isolated himself behind the Great Walls to avoid being brutally eaten by the Titans. Eren Yeager and his comrades in arms find a way to fight the Titans and travel beyond the walls. When they reach the latter, however, they realize that the rest of the world is still alive and want everyone within the Wall to die. With this, all the story pieces are unraveled and the action can finally begin.
There are three main factions ready to fight in Final Season. The first party introduced was Marley. Using the power of the Titans, they became the main military superpower of the world. However, technology has slowly caught up with the Titans and risks making them obsolete. The Marleyans’ goal was to usurp the Founding Titan’s absolute power from the Eldians living behind the Walls of Paradis Island and regain their advantage long enough to develop their own technology.
Among the Marleyan army, it is noteworthy that a unit of Elders is hungry to prove their patriotism and atone for the sins of their ancestors. Notable members of this unit include Reiner (heir to the Armored Titan) Gabi Braun, Falco, Colt Grice, Porco Galliard (Jaws Titan) and Pieck Finger (Titan Cart). Gabi is introduced wanting to slaughter all Eldian demons but eventually learns to understand them better after living among them. Falco wants to do whatever it takes to protect Gabi. Reiner is ashamed of the life he is leading, but he lives on to ensure that Falco and his friends have a better future than he does. Technically, Annie Leonhart (Female Titan) is among these soldiers, though she remains crystallized and under the careful supervision of the Paradis Eldians. There was also their commanding officer Theo Magath; he’s not Eldian,
The second main faction is the Eldians of Paradis Island. They already include the main character of the first three seasons, so there isn’t much new information to offer about them. Their only deterrent against the invading forces is The Rumble’s threat, which is the use of wall Titans to trample the rest of the world. However, their goal is to find a nonviolent solution to prevent the rest of the world from going to war with them in the first place.
Eren Yeager (who has the powers of Attack, Founder, and Warhammer Titans) has his own faction entirely. He concluded that no conflict between Paradis and the others would not end in violence. Furthermore, Eren believes that the only way to stop enemy nations like Marley is through a show of force. His current goal is to meet Zeke Yeager (Beast Titan) to use his royal bloodline to access the full range of the Founding Titan’s abilities, including the use of The Rumble. Eren’s despicable means of achieving freedom for Paradis and his friends, especially Mikasa and Armin (Colossal Titan), have made him the central villain of Attack on Titan.
Supporting Eren’s cause are the Yeagerists, or New Eldian Empire. They, like Eren, are anti-military deserters who consider their military’s approach to handling enemy nations too passive and seek immediate action and reform. They are mostly made up of old soldiers like Floch Forster. On Eren’s side were also Marleyan defectors like Zeke and Yelena. Zeke, while working with Eren, is plotting to use the Founding Titan’s powers to disinfect Ymir’s Subjects and end the age of Titans once and for all.
With all that happened in Episode 75, the final battle begins where it all began– in Shiganshina. It will be a three-way confrontation between Marley, Eldia and the Yeageists. It should also be noted that eight of the Nine Titans are currently in one place. The fate of the whole world depends on the outcome of this battle. Eldia will eventually be destroyed or freed. Everything will clear up in the final season of Attack on Titan which begins on January 9, 2021.
