Kagurabachi manga author Takeru Hokazono was surprised by the immediate success of his work. The series began being serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump last mid-September 2023 and quickly became popular.
There was even a time when Kagurabachi received an ironic following on social networks, as people praised it as one of the best manga of all time, with a phenomenon known as Kagura Bachi Glazing.
Hokazono confessed that the sudden success scared him at first, but now he is happy that many people like his work. The series has surpassed 100 million views on Manga Plus.
Takeru said: “At first I was quite nervous. Suddenly being seen by so many people made everything scary, to the point that writing each chapter was scary. But when many people started to appreciate it, I was very fun.”
Usually, manga takes time to attract an audience, especially stories from new authors. However, Kagurabachi became an exception, quickly gaining popularity through memes even before its release. Today, there are over 200,000 copies in circulation with just two volumes released.
Kagurabachi is available on the Shonen Jump app. The story follows Chihiro, a young man training to become a swordsmith under the tutelage of his father. After a tragedy, his focus turns to revenge.
