The new manga celebrates the 50th anniversary of Tsuburaya Productions’ classic tokusatsu series.
Tsuburaya Productions announced Monday that Masato Hisa is drawing a new manga “reboot” of the company’s Mirrorman tokusatsu manga series titled Mirrorman 2D. Manga celebrates the 50th anniversary of the Mirrorman series debut. The manga will launch on July 30 on Hero’s Inc.’s ComiPlex website. and on Tsuburaya’s Tsuburaya Imagination website. The series will be set in present day.
In addition, Tsuburaya is streaming the original series in weekly episodes with English subtitles on its official YouTube channel. The first episode is available.
Tsuburaya describes the original series:
Year 198X. The aliens called invaders started the invasion. They take on human form and cause various incidents in the human world. Dr. Mitarai, who represents Japan at the International Earth Defense Council, SGM organization. However, humans are facing difficulties in terms of defending themselves against the cunning plots of invaders. Kyotaro Kagami (23 years old) was raised by a doctor as if he were the doctor’s son. One day, the doctor tells Kyotaro that he is the Mirrorman, and asks him to protect the earth from invaders.
Tsuburaya Productions launched the original Mirrorman series in 1971 as the studio’s first non-Ultraman series.
Hisa’s Nobunagun manga previously inspired a television anime in 2014. The series ran from 2011 to 2015. Hisa also drew the manga adaptation of the Batman Ninja anime. The two-volume manga series premiered in June 2018 and ended in September 2019.
