Author Naoki Urasawa launches a drawing-themed YouTube channel with English subtitles
Manga author Naoki Urasawa (Yawara!, Master Keaton, 20th Century Boys, Pluto) launched a YouTube channel in April and will focus on the subject of drawing. In his debut video, he says that he started the channel to inform people about his current job, his life as a manga artist, and to share drawing tips. Videos are posted with closed captions in English.
His most recent video, posted on Tuesday, shows how to draw lines with a ruler, which he describes as a “basic” manga technique. The video includes a tutorial on how to draw motion lines commonly found in manga, as well as general advice on how to improve as an artist.
Urasawa began drawing manga in 1981. Viz Media published 0th Century Boys, 21st Century Boys, Monster, and Pluto manga. Manga Monster inspired an animated television series in 2004-2005, and 20th Century Boys inspired a live-action trilogy in 2008-2009. Also, his Yawara ! A Judo Fashion Girl manga series inspired an animated series in 1989-1992, an animated film in 1992, and an animated special in 1996. An anime project based on Pluto being made.
The author drew Asadora! manga in October 2018. Viz Media released the manga’s first volume on January 19.
