Kodoani.com – An exciting new live-action movie titled Onmyoji 0has been announced and is expected to premiere in Japan during the Golden Week holiday from April 29 to May 5, 2024. The film’s official website has been opened and a long teaser trailer is streaming 30 seconds, do Saori Hayami (famous for his role as Yor Forger in “SPY x FAMILY”) performed.
This novel series revolves around the story of Abe no Seimei, a famous wizard and leading expert on Onmyodo during the Heian period (a type of Japanese magic, and practitioners of Onmyodo are called Onmyoji). This novel has been released in Japan since 1986, has printed more than six million copies and has been adapted into two live-action films directed by Yojiro Takita (director of “Departures”) directed in 2001 and 2003. An anime version based on the novel will be broadcast on Netflix worldwide on November 28, 2023.
The live-action film will tell the story of Abe no Seimei’s journey before he became an Onmyoji. The special thing is the director Shimako Sato (known for the horror series “Eko Eko Azaraku”) co-wrote the film’s script. Besides, Nanami Kamon, a novelist with extensive knowledge of magic, feng shui, and ancient Japanese folklore, also participates as a supervisor. The film was filmed on a large scale at many locations throughout Japan, including Kyoto, Nara, Iwate, Shizuoka and Chiba, all of which are closely related to the life of Abe no Seimei.
