A few days ago, TikTok, and its parent company, were sued by an outsider on the grounds that they suffered from PTSD (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder) from working long hours. The report indicates that the employee’s name is Candie Frazie and works for a company called Telus. The latter company, as TikTok’s third-party contracting company, is responsible for evaluating video content on the platform.
Fraser said she has to watch hundreds of videos every 12 hours in shifts every day, she has to watch 3 to 10 different videos at the same time, and each video has only 25 seconds of playback time. During work, there is only one hour for lunch and two 15-minute breaks. But what made it even more difficult for Fraser to accept was that this video content included a lot of illegal, offensive, vulgar and lewd content, which made Frazie unbearable.
These include strange behavior and not even a lack of clips with user-submitted lewd content. This left her with PTSD, difficulty falling asleep, and frequent nightmares. Ultimately, Frazie sued TikTok, alleging that the company failed to adhere to industry standards to protect them, including providing them with regular breaks and psychological support. In addition, TikTok did not implement technical safeguards to intelligently handle these illegal videos, thereby increasing the workload.
This is not the first time, the TikTok platform has encountered controversy related to content censorship. Even in Vietnam, there is no shortage of vulgar and offensive video clips. Remember not long ago, the online community was extremely angry and frustrated with a content appearing on TikTok. Specifically, the content/image/caption and the words appearing in this clip are extremely vulgar, depraved, even defying ethics and fine customs. It is worth mentioning that the person appearing in the video clip and possibly also the author who built this script is a fairly young man.
Recently on TikTok, there were even clips with offensive, vulgar and depraved content uploaded by users themselves. For example, the clip that has been circulating on social networks in the past few days is said to be of a female user using TikTok.
According to Forbes, TikTok has had 850 million downloads in 2020 and 656 million in 2021, making it the most downloaded app in the past year. However, having too many users also means that the content posted on social media platforms is extremely unpredictable. That is the real concern.
