Monkey D. Garp is a Marine hero and is nicknamed “Fist Garp”. But perhaps due to his old age, he is rarely active now, especially after the timeskip. So if you want to know how dangerous Garp is, look at the great characters who used to “eat his punches” in One Piece. Even Luffy once said that he almost died at the hands of his grandfather… tons of times, because he was eaten by his grandfather’s “Love Punch” countless times since childhood.
The Love Punch is a powerful punch that uses Busoshoku Haki that Garp used to hit Luffy on the head. Ace also received this attack when he was young.
1. Rock D. Xebec
The Marines led by Garp and Roger’s group had teamed up in God Valey to fight the Rocks gang consisting of the big names Kaido, Linlin, Shiki, Whitebeard, and even the mighty Rocks D. Xebec strong. Victory after this war is what gives Luffy’s grandfather the title of “Marine Hero”, not Garp’s feat of “capturing” Gol D. Roger. Unfortunately Oda has yet to show Garp’s fight against the Rocks.
2. Shiki Golden Lion
Since Shiki used to be a member of the Rocks Pirates, Garp probably faced him a long time ago. However, Shiki’s conflict with Garp became known only when the Golden Lion arrived at Marineford after Roger surrendered himself to the navy. Garp’s battle with Sengoku against Shiki caused great destruction in Marineford. Luckily Shiki was caught.
3. Chinjao
Garp was the main reason Chinjao lost the drill on his head for a long time. It is known that Garp once destroyed eight mountains to fight Chinjao. When they finally clashed, the top of Chinjao’s head was bent to the point of dents and he lost his pride.
Because of this, Chinjao became the most hostile “grandfather” in One Piece, because he hated Garp, leading to his hatred for Garp’s son Dragon, and then his grandson, Luffy. He believes that descendants must pay the price for the past actions of previous generations. Chinjao meets Luffy and insists, if he had known Dragon was Garp’s son earlier, he certainly wouldn’t have let Luffy be born.
4. Gol D. Roger
Monkey D. Garp was once known as a marine that could hunt down and fight Gol D. Roger many times. It is later revealed in Oden’s flashback that Roger also considers Garp to be someone worthy of him. The Pirate King once said that if it weren’t for Garp or Sengoku, hardly any navy would bring him a happy battle. Therefore, it is no wonder that Garp is one of Gol D. Rogers’ most formidable enemies in One Piece.
5. Marco
During the fight at Marineford Headquarters, there’s an amusing moment when Marco tries to grab Ace, after which Garp punches him. Seeing how Garp hit Marco in a way that Kizaru and Akainu couldn’t seem to do, even though Marco was now carrying the power of a Devil Fruit, was amazing. Especially after we see in Onigashima, Marco can even face King and Queen at the same time. Yet he could not have foreseen Garp’s punch.
Marco’s wound after Garp’s attack also doesn’t heal immediately, we can still see the bruise after Marco lands.
