Netflix’s Bubble, due out in 2022, is a modern take on a beloved fairy tale that is sure to keep audiences hooked.
Kodoani.com – Netflix’s upcoming partnership with WIT Studio (Attack on Titan and Great Pretender) is anime Bubbles, an action-focused anime that defies the rules of psychics. Set in an alternate universe, the city of Tokyo loses gravity when bubbles fall to earth. The story revolves around Hibiki and his involvement in parkour: the sport of overcoming environmental obstacles by running, climbing, or jumping quickly. Hibiki performs a dangerous game and falls into the gravity-bending sea. In the timeline, he is saved by Uta, a mysterious blue-haired girl who appeared from within a bubble.
Gen Urobuchi (Puella Magi Madoka Magica) wrote the script for the anime, saying, “I was thinking about playing with a typical mermaid story: Instead of a girl ending up like a bubble after falling in love, why aren’t there bubbles when falling in love and transforming into a girl?” The Little Mermaid, written by Danish author Hans Christian Andersen in 1837, was preceded by: a girl who turns into a sponge after not win the heart of a prince.
Traditional fairy tales, unlike their modern counterparts, did not shy away from the harsh or seemingly unfair realities of life. They are written to teach children moral lessons. The original The Little Mermaid was on the subject of consequences, telling the story of a mermaid princess who falls in love with a human prince after she saves him from drowning. Blinded by her delusion, the little mermaid makes a deal with the sea witch: trade her voice for a human. The transformation was painful and every step she took on her new legs felt like she was stabbed with a dagger. The sea witch also sets the condition that the mermaid must capture the prince’s heart, or else it will melt into foam.
While the prince likes the little mermaid, the guy doesn’t love her and instead chooses to marry another princess. Then the sea witch gives the mermaid a chance to save her life by taking the prince’s life. Instead of saving herself, the mermaid accepts the consequences of her actions. She jumped into the ocean and turned into a sponge. However, she did not die; She is resurrected by the girls in the air who are like angels. They bestowed her with a soul, and she ascended to the kingdom of heaven.
In Bubble, after Uta saves Hibiki, they hear a unique sound that only they can hear. Their relationship is established as the catalyst of a story that changes not only their lives but also the world around them. With Uta taking on a similar role to the mermaid, audiences will have to wait and see how closely their stories tie together. Bubble director Tetsuro Araki (Attack on Titan) shared that “the film will definitely have exciting action sequences and beautiful backgrounds, I hope that this time I can also bring people to interesting things. taste more.”
The bubble theme also translates into the creative process with Urobuchi saying that “it was a fun experience when we had all of these ‘bubbles’ come together to create one giant ‘wave’. ” The all-star team of collaborators also includes character designs by Takeshi Obata (Death Note) and music by Hiroyuki Sawano (Promare). Voice actors include Jun Shison in the lead role, Mamoru Miyano, Yuki Kaji and Tasuku Hatanaka. Netflix will release the film on April 28, 2022.
