Ko is desperate to find meaning in her life, and her old classmate Akira may have the solution. Now is up to Ko
Kodoani.com – The following section contains content for Episode 4 of Call of the Night.
Call of the Night is a brand new comedy anime in the Summer 2022 anime season, starring the main character Yamori Ko. Ko is an amnesiac boy wandering the streets of Tokyo alone, desperate to find happiness and meaning in his life. He had given up on school and friendship, but maybe it wasn’t too late.
I don’t think I’ll find purpose in living with the carefree vampire Nazuna, and he might be right. However, her old classmate Akira understands Ko better than anyone, and she definitely has Ko’s best interests in mind. No matter what Ko said, there was still conflict and confusion in her heart, so she clung to Akira for guidance. She knows exactly what to do.
So far in Call of the Night, Ko was convinced that if he could fall in love with Nazuna and get back together, he would find true happiness and eventually change his life. After all, Ko believes that the daytime world of people, school, and friendship has nothing to do with him, so he wants to live a carefree life like Nazuna in the freedom of the night. It’s a compelling solution that almost makes Ko a slow-living character, but maybe not so easily. Whatever he may say, Ko is completely unable to let go of his former day life, and the arrival of his old classmate Akira proves it. Akira cares deeply for Ko, and he eagerly accepts her offer to rekindle their friendship. After all, Ko is not such a rogue.
Volume 4 continues the storyline that started in Volume 3, with Ko, Nazuna, and Akira forming a trio of friends with ambiguous love triangles. For now, the anime will turn its back on Akira’s innocent side, with Akira making serious efforts to bring Ko back to his day life. In a quiet scene in Nazuna’s nearly empty apartment, Akira explains that while she wants Ko to find joy in day life, she also accepts Ko’s quest to love Nazuna and find find happiness in the night. Akira seems convinced that Ko can find a compromise between these two options, although it remains unclear whether that is actually possible.
Episode 4 fails to address Ko’s dilemma of his secret yearning for day life and his outward determination to love Nazuna as a fellow vampire in the dead of night. What Ko wants and what he needs can be two different things, and as of Episode 4, Ko can’t tell the difference. Then there’s Akira, the girl who embodies all the warm friendship and acceptance that Ko can find in daytime, and she understands him far more deeply than Nazuna. Sure, while Ko may be a deeply introverted person, he also values friendships and genuine emotional connections, which he won’t find easily in Nazuna. Akira may be Ko’s best shot as she abandons her reckless plan to “become a vampire” and frees herself from the loneliness of the night.
On the other hand, even Akira’s friendly feelings cannot stop Ko from seeking true and free love with Nazuna. Whether it’s a good idea or not, Ko is still very excited about his vampire romance project, so instead of stopping it, Akira accepts the plan and wishes Ko the best. . This could work in Akira’s favor, as it not only makes her look graceful, but it can also allow Ko to prove that she’s right in the end. If Ko pursues his vampire project and fails, Akira will be proven right, which will force Ko to see things Akira’s way. And if Ko’s vampire plan really works, Akira can accept that too, because Ko’s happiness is what Akira wants most. She prefers Ko during the day, but both outcomes are in her favor.
