Kou Yamori looks like a typical middle school student on the surface. Relatively good at studying and amiable with his classmates, he put a lot of effort into maintaining this facade. However, one day he decided to stop pretending and dropped out of school, suffering from insomnia due to lack of energy during the day. When he goes for a walk alone at night, he feels a little better, although he is aware that his insomnia should be taken as a serious problem. During one such walk, Kou meets a strange girl, Nazuna Nanakusa, who diagnoses the cause of his insomnia: despite the changes in his life, he is still holding himself back to experience the experience. Experience true freedom. She says he won’t be able to sleep unless he’s satisfied with how he spends his waking hours. When it seems she has resolved his current worries, Nazuna invites him back to her apartment to share her mattress. After a moment, unaware that he was just pretending to be unconscious, she leaned over him — and bit his neck!
Kotoyama (Dagashi Kashi) launched the Call of the Night manga in Weekly Shonen Sunday in August 2019. Shogakukan published the ninth volume on November 18 and will publish the 10th volume on Friday.
