For the first time in history, VCT China can participate in an international LAN event like the Valorant Champions Tour.
It is known that the Chinese players were not able to participate in VCT before, but now things have changed as they will have the option to qualify for the Champions League through the East Asian qualifiers. At the end of each year, teams not shortlisted for Champions from each region have a chance to qualify for their respective Last Chance Qualifiers. These qualifiers allow one team from each region to participate in the Valorant Champions alongside the teams in their region.
This year, the top three teams from the Korea and Japan region will compete with the top two teams from China for a spot in this Champions event.
Unlike the Korea and Japan regions, teams from China will compete through a tournament organized by a third party, not VCT. These tournaments are not sponsored by Riot Games but will still help two teams qualify for a Champions League spot.
But for a team from China to make it to the Champions event, they will have to beat six other teams from two other regions to claim a spot.
If neither of the top two Chinese teams make it past the Last Chance Qualifiers, we won’t see a single Chinese team compete for the title for the second year in a row. Valorant has already started the franchising process in various regions but there is no confirmation as to whether China will be included in the franchise in the future.
Only time will tell if Valorant will decide whether to sponsor events in China for VCT.
