Crypto.com virtual currency exchange discovered that it had mistakenly transferred 10 million USD to a customer… from 7 months ago.
Specifically, the amount that Crypto.com confused is 10.5 million USD. The error occurred in a $100 refund transaction to an Australian female customer named Thevamanogari Manivel.
However, this transaction ended last May, but it was not until a year-end audit of the books that Crypto.com discovered the error. The cause was determined to be an employee accidentally entered the wrong amount to be transacted.
Immediately upon discovering the incident, Crypto.com filed a lawsuit in court and froze Manivel’s account. According to many sources, the entire amount of 10.5 million USD was divided by Manivel and transferred to many other accounts before being frozen. She also bought many valuable properties and then transferred the name to relatives to circumvent the law.
Specifically, earlier this year, Manivel sent his daughter more than 400,000 USD. More than a month later, she continued to spend nearly 1.5 million USD from the money Crypto.vn mistakenly transferred to buy a luxury villa with 4 bedrooms in the north of Melbourne, then transferred the ownership name back to him. The younger sister is Thilagavathy Gangadory, currently living abroad.
The Supreme Court ordered Manivel to return the full amount, plus a profit of nearly 30 million USD to the Crypto.com exchange. The lawsuit will continue in October.
