Electronic Arts has announced the release date for the remake of the popular classic survival horror title Dead Space.
In a new announcement from Motive Studios, Dead Space’s release date has now been confirmed as January 27, 2023.
Dead Space remains one of the most classic horror games in gaming, and even as the Dead Space series later transitioned from horror to action, the legacy of the original Dead Space hasn’t been lost. It’s no surprise that after 13 years Electronic Arts has returned to the series’ roots with a Dead Space Remake game developed by Motive Studios. However, delivering a remake of enough quality to honor the original takes time, which is why Motive Studios doesn’t want to rush it. Dead Space Remake now has a release date for gamers, and as previously confirmed, it won’t launch in 2022.
In a new announcement from Motive Studios, Dead Space’s release date has now been confirmed as January 27, 2023. Motive promises that the remake will be based on the “thrilling perspective” of the original Dead Space. by recreating its visual atmosphere and enhancing the sound system. As previously announced, Dead Space Remake is coming to PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S, skipping the PS4 and Xbox One generations to focus on delivering the best experience possible.
According to senior producer Philippe Ducharme, the Dead Space Remake release date announcement is made now because the Motive Studios team is continuing to make “a lot of progress”. Ducharme explains that Motive Studios has put Dead Space Remake in alpha, which means the game is already playable and includes all major features. That might explain why Motive Studios feels confident announcing a release date for Dead Space Remake now. The title may have a long way to go, but Motive Studios will work to make the wait worth it.
In addition to the release date announcement for Dead Space Remake, Motive Studios also shared some extended footage as part of the new stream. The video shows gamers visual effects such as fog, smoke and firecrackers, along with visuals and environmental design for Dead Space Remake, improved character modeling and lighting effects. Dead Space Remake will be a huge opportunity for the art team at Motive Studios to showcase their talents and the footage shared today shows Motive Studios embracing that opportunity.
One thing that is clear from today’s Dead Space footage is that Motive Studios is investing heavily in the remake’s visuals. That’s not only interesting for the game, but also interesting to think about what Motive Studios will work on next. Maybe Dead Space is just the first step in Motive Studios’ plans, after which they could launch a follow-up original game or even make their own Dead Space sequel.
The January release date for Dead Space Remake will be somewhat questionable as it’s been a month that has historically featured multiple launches of major game releases. Regardless of how Electronic Arts competes with other major titles released in early 2023, or how the market will react to Dead Space Remake, it will be interesting for us to wait and see.
