Supercell reported recent sales of $2.24 billion (1.89 billion euros, up 51%) and pre-tax profit of $852 million (up 84%) for 2021.
For the first time, Supercell’s cumulative revenue up to now in Clash of Clans and Clash Royale alone has reached more than 10 billion dollars. The company has only had 5 titles released so far: Clash of Clans, Clash Royale, Brawl Stars, Boom Beach and Hay Day.
Helsinki-based Supercell releases financial results once a year under Finnish law, and it needs to pay $177 million in corporate taxes. Profit before tax of $852 million was earnings before income taxes and amortization (EBITDA).
Game Everdale is already in beta in many countries.
In terms of results, which have lasted for 11 years, each of Supercell’s games has grossed over $1 billion in revenue and has had 5 billion downloads. It currently has 250 million monthly active players. And while these results are enviable in the game, the company remains modest about its performance.
“The best days of Supercell are with us right now?” – Ilkka Paananen, CEO of Supercell, said in a post. “We asked ourselves this simple question early last year, as we worked to meet the needs of players around the world.”
Paananen says that “developing and running hit games doesn’t get easier even when you already have great potential.” The company couldn’t have dreamed of success when it started in 2010 but has really grown a lot in the 12 years, especially since Brawl Stars went global.
The company’s revenue increased more than 2020.
Supercell’s dream is to create games that “as many people as possible”, play for years and those games are remembered forever.
“As CEO, I was supposed to challenge the existing mindset and culture as I wrote in the company culture document a few years ago,” emphasized Supercell CEO.
Supercell also found that making more games for players could affect employee health. Therefore, the company is flexible in its remote working activities and benefits. In the near future, the company will release more new games.
