In episode 11 of Demon Slayer Season 3, Nezuko, the main character’s younger sister, survived the middle of the day. Tanjiro finds himself at an emotional crossroads throughout the episode as he has to choose between saving his sister from the sun or rescuing a Swordsmith from another demon. In the end, Nezuko decided to replace Tanjiro by sacrificing herself and pushing him away, exposing herself completely to the light. However, after Tanjiro defeated the demon, he discovered that Nezuko had miraculously survived under the sun.

Nezuko survived the impossible
The moment came as a huge shock to many, as the first episode established that Nezuko and all the other demons could not survive in the sun without being burned. However, it’s now official that the fan-favorite character with the ability to resize is the only demon that can live in sunlight. How she manages to do so is not explained in the episode, but fans should expect more information coming in the recently announced Season 4, which will include the “Training Hashira” arc. The episode also featured Lady Tamayo, who correctly theorized that Nezuko would be able to survive in the sun thanks to her unique bloodline.
While this is good news for the characters, it also spells disaster as it instantly targets Nezuko’s back from Muzan Kibutsuji. The fearsome Demon King learns that a demon has “conquered the sun”, leading to a flashback revealing his past story. Muzan becomes the first demon after receiving a special potion but wishes to be able to come back to life in daylight. He’s spent 1000 years looking for a way to do it and now he’s blindly devouring Nezuko to steal her unique new ability.
The latest episode serves as the finale of the “Blacksmith’s Village Arc”, in which Tanjiro and Nezuko join forces with the Misturi Kanroji Pillar and the Muichiro Tokito Pillar to fight the demonic threats in the main village. It also marks the first permanent appearance of Genya Shinazugawa, who took over as Tanjiro’s support from Inosuke and Zenitsu.
