In chapter 66 of the Boruto: Naruto Next Generations manga, Boruto Uzumaki was attacked by Kawaki and seemingly dead. The problem is, from the very first episode of this series, we saw Boruto fighting Kawaki in the future.
In that case, then Boruto must have survived the “death” just now. So what happened?
1. Boruto manga chapter 66
At the end of chapter 66, Boruto finds himself in danger. Especially because in chapter 65, Boruto (who was controlled by Momoshiki) almost killed Naruto. Fortunately at that time, Kawaki helped the Seventh Hokage, so Naruto was still unharmed. So Boruto then pushed Naruto away and let himself be attacked by Kawaki.
Chapter 66 ends with Boruto lying on the ground with a large hole in the middle of his chest caused by Kawaki.
2. Boruto turned out to be alive in chapter 67?
After Code left, Shikamaru tried to discuss what to do with Kawaki. Shikamaru was uncomfortable seeing Kawaki being able to kill Boruto so easily. As a result, Shikamaru felt that Kawaki would be able to do anything to achieve his goal.
Naruto then replies that Kawaki is part of the family. Next, Shikamaru asked Naruto if he can consider Kawaki as family, while Kawaki killed Boruto? But apparently, Boruto is still alive in chapter 67.
3. How is Boruto still alive?
Momoshiki is in charge of saving Boruto from death, as he is Momoshiki’s only vessel. So Momoshiki revived Boruto with the power of Karma. Momoshiki’s explanation was like this. The process of extracting Karma into Boruto’s body was 82% complete. Momoshiki only had to wait for another 18% to fully reincarnate, but that couldn’t happen if Boruto died first.
So Momoshiki rewrote that 18% into Boruto’s data. That way, Boruto’s organs and cells damaged by Kawaki’s attack could recover.
So what is the effect of Momoshiki sacrificing the other 18%? It made Momoshiki unable to come back to life. But on the other hand… now Otsutsuki’s data has in fact completed its extraction in Boruto’s body. Currently, Boruto Uzumaki’s body has become a real Otsutsuki. That is, Boruto is also qualified to sacrifice for the Ten-Tails.
4. Momoshiki insists that Boruto’s death was not a prophecy he conveyed
In Boruto chapter 67, Boruto asks Momoshiki like because Boruto died once, is that what Momoshiki said in the past. This quote alludes to an incident in chapter 10. At that time, Momoshiki said that Boruto’s blue eyes would take away everything from Boruto.
In chapter 67, Momoshiki states that Boruto’s temporary death was not his intention. Even Momoshiki didn’t know how Boruto’s situation would turn out later. But Momoshiki says that the time of the incident he mentioned is approaching, and it will be an interesting sight.
