Kim “Ssong” Sang-soo is still showing great confidence in helping another team to the top of the world next season.
Just a few weeks ago, LoL followers watched DRX lift the Summoner’s Cup after one of the most magical journeys in World Championship history. However, even as part of this hugely successful team, the former DRX head coach is still struggling to find a new team for the 2023 season.
DRX said goodbye to the entire squad and coaching staff right after the World Championship 2022
Previously, Ssong confirmed that his contract with DRX expired shortly after the final match of Worlds 2022 and that he has not found a new destination yet. The 33-year-old coach is clearly a key member, making a great contribution to the ban-pick stage so that DRX’s players have many advantages and a higher chance of winning than the opponent.
In Twitter posts Ssong shared, “I’m confident that I will win Worlds again in 2023 with any team, as long as they show their desire to win. The new 2023 meta will love it. requires creativity but still has to be strong in the ban-pick process, which all players and coaches need to discuss and prepare together.”
The experienced coach said that he couldn’t find a new team in time because they (DRX) had to stay in North America for a long time to attend Worlds. While Ssong and DRX battled for the championship, the rest of the teams in Korea had already found their new coaches as “free agents”.
He is even looking for new roles with lower salaries in the hope of securing a job next year, but due to “unfortunate circumstances”, his various negotiations with several organization has broken down.
Ssong spent a lot of time working for many major Esports teams such as ROX Tigers, Immortals, TSM and CLG before joining DRX last year. Although the team didn’t bring home any LCK trophy, they quickly became one of the standout teams when they won Worlds despite having to start their journey from the play-in round.
