Four mobile games by Onoma Studio (formerly Square Enix Montreal) will be shutting down in early 2023.
Onoma Studio, formerly known as Square Enix Montreal, is shutting down this week and bringing with it some of its mobile titles. On November 24, Onoma Studio announced that Deus Ex Go, Hitman Sniper: The Shadows, Arena Battle Champions, and Space Invaders: Hidden Heroes will be closing on January 4.
The above games will be removed from the App Store and Google Play Store as of December 1. Players who have downloaded the games will still be able to continue playing until the four games are discontinued on January 4. In-game purchases will not be available as of November 24. The publisher encourages players who have purchased the item to use the item before the game closes. While publishers usually close servers or stop direct support for older games, in this case the four titles mentioned will be completely discontinued as of January 4. Closing games include both the popular mobile puzzle game Deus Ex Go and a new title released less than a year ago – Hitman Sniper: The Shadows.
Other games in Onoma’s “Go” series, Lara Croft Go and Hitman Go, will not be affected by the studio closure. Onoma was acquired by Embracer Group earlier this year along with a number of Square Enix’s other Western-market studios. Square Enix Montreal was renamed in October, before Embracer announced that the studio would be closing permanently in November.
