Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty distorts the Three Kingdoms Dien Nghia? That is the question that many gamers are asking in recent days.
Inspired by the famous Three Kingdoms period in Chinese history, but Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty or Wo Long – Thuong Thien Still Lac has been added by Team Ninja with a lot of fictional content to create more drama in the plot. I released this video on Thursday so you can watch it again. Today is still Wo Long, but I want to talk about a different story.
Many on social networks are questioning whether the game has gone too far while deliberately distorting the history of the Three Kingdoms? In today’s video, let’s take a look at two important contents that have been completely changed by Ngoa Long with history to find the answer, let’s get started!
Is Hoang Can a peasant uprising or a bandit?
In Crouching Dragon, the Hoang Can or Yellow Turban is an aggressive villain that the protagonist must face in the first half of the game. This army was led by three self-proclaimed generals, Truong Giac, Truong Bao and Truong Luong. This force is described as a horde of demons that wreak havoc wherever they go. From harming people, burning villages to looting, there is no evil that is not done.
Only when the main character destroys the leader of the evil army, everything is temporarily calm again. However, according to the records in book 71 of the Book of the Later Han, the three Zhang brothers, who specialize in healing and saving lives, should be respected by the masses. In addition to healing, they also evangelized Thai Binh, gaining many followers under their command.
Later, when seeing that Han Linh De became more and more depraved, visiting umbrellas raged everywhere, people became more and more miserable, the three Truong brothers decided to launch an uprising to overthrow the Han Dynasty. Because the flag of the uprising used yellow cloth, history called it the period of Hoang Can rebellion or the Yellow Turban uprising.
The Yellow Turban army in a short time received the response of the people everywhere, causing the Han court to fear. However, less than a year, Truong Giac fell ill and died, Truong Luong was killed by Hoang Phu Tung in the battle of Quang Tong. And Truong Bao was arrested by Cu Loc, Phung Duc, in collaboration with Hoang Phu Tung, and then put on trial.
The failure of the Yellow Turban force is concluded by modern historians because the leader lacked knowledge and did not grasp the times. Besides, the army is mostly people from the peasant class, lacking military knowledge. Many people believe that from the flawed uprising plan, it can be seen that the Truong brothers’ thinking is extremely shallow and childish, even if they win, they can’t end the chaos.
However, it cannot be denied that the rebellion of the three Truong brothers paved the way for larger uprisings later. On the positive side, the purpose of the Yellow Turban army was not bad, because it was an uprising representing the peasant class standing up against the feudal class. But why do rebel leaders often appear in the game as villains?
This problem stems from the fact that, most of us know about the Three Kingdoms period through two works, Tam Quoc Chi by Tran Tho and Tam Quoc Dien Nghia by La Quan Trung. There is a fact that many people often confuse, that is that the Three Kingdoms Dien Nghia is a book that records events during and after the Three Kingdoms period. Then use the Three Kingdoms Dien Nghia as evidence for the problems that occurred during that period.
In fact, Tam Quoc Chi is a relatively accurate historical document about this period, while Tam Quoc Dien Nghia is just a novel written by La Quan Trung. The author surnamed La based on the records of historical books, mainly on Tran Tho’s Tam Quoc Chi, plus stories collected from legends, history, folklore and fiction according to the principle of “seven parts of reality. , three bad parts”.
So there are many details in the Romance of the Three Kingdoms that do not exist or are not historically true. In addition, La Quan Trung writes from the perspective of an orthodox Han dynasty worshiper, so many details and facts are clearly biased by the author. Specifically, according to Luu Bei’s history of Shu Han, the area was smaller, the population was also smaller than the army of Cao Wei and Dong Ngo.
However, Luo Guanzhong always finds excuses to justify the failures of Shu Han without admitting that the Han Dynasty’s collapse is an inevitable historical process. Also from this point of view, all the forces that oppose or harm the Han Dynasty have become evil wards, demons that need to be eradicated.
With Luo Guanzhong, Truong Giac’s Yellow Turban, Cao Cao’s Northern Wei or Ton Quyen’s Dong Wu, it makes no difference. Talking about the Yellow Turban army, in the Three Kingdoms Dien Nghia, they are described by La Quan Trung as a group of evil bandits who are good at using magic when going to battle.
It is this invisibility that over the next few hundred years, many readers who took the Three Kingdoms Dien Nghia as a standard of evaluation considered the Yellow Turbans to be bandits who used magic to seduce the people. In fact, it is necessary to fairly re-evaluate the role, meaning and influence that the Yellow Turban peasant uprising brought.
Of course, this video is not meant to whiten the Yellow Turban army, because the leader Truong Giac has a real ideal, but the generals under him are different. They are peasants, not properly trained, so military discipline is almost nonexistent. Not to mention that the regular army is still making riots sometimes, so what do you expect the insurgents to strictly maintain.
Thus, the situation of capturing the citadel was completed, and the army rioting took place regularly and in the eyes of everyone, the Yellow Turbans, regardless of the reason for the uprising, did not behave much differently from bandits. So, whether this army is good or bad is still difficult to say, but we do not deny that this army contributed a significant part to the later uprisings of the Three Kingdoms period.
In short, Yellow Turban is always considered the villain in the games about the Three Kingdoms in general and the demons in the Crouching Dragon in particular are largely influenced by the Three Kingdoms Dien Nghia of La Quan Trung. Maybe Team Ninja was affected by that, or maybe they just couldn’t find a suitable villain to start the game with. So the Yellow Turban army, which had a stain from the past, was a very reasonable choice.
Completely changed relationship of the characters
Although I know that Crouching Dragon is just a game inspired by the Three Kingdoms period, not a copy of the original, but for those who have seen the Three Kingdoms Dien Nghia or delved into the Three Kingdoms period more or less, will feel questioned because of the rather messy relationships in the game’s plot.
First and most typical, we have to talk about the relationship between the war god Lu Bo and the beauty Dieu Thuyen. In the scene of Dong Trac headquarters in Ngoai Long, many of you will find it difficult to understand when a girl named Hong Tinh claims to be Dieu Thuyen, so who is this girl’s true identity? In fact, the image of Hong Tinh was built based on the beautiful woman Dieu Thuyen of the Three Kingdoms period.
Dieu Thuyen’s name was originally Nham Hong Xuong, this name was used in the play “Combined beauty in Cam Van Duong” from the past, not by myself. Later, because he took on an official called Dieu Thuyen, Hong Xuong was called Dieu Thuyen. As for the reason why Hong Xuong became Hong Tinh, perhaps the Chinese characters Tinh and Xuong have similar pronunciation and spelling.
After determining that Hong Tinh is Dieu Thuyen, we will continue to talk about the relationship between her and the war god Lu Bu. In the Three Kingdoms Dien Nghia, Dieu Boat was originally part of Vuong Doan’s succession to separate Lu Bu and Dong Zhuo. In Crouching Dragon, we can see that Hong Tinh and Lu Bu are actually just brothers, why am I so sure?
Because in the Chinese version, Hong Tinh calls Lu Bo the elder brother, and Lu Bo calls her “Xa mi”. These two personal pronouns are only for family members, so their relationship is not a friend with benefit. In addition, Hong Tinh personally infiltrated Dong Trac barracks to meet Lu Bu, and the reason Lu Bu killed Dong Zhuo was because he wanted to protect Dieu Boat as well as target the number of medicinal herbs to destroy Vu Cat.
But there is absolutely no contest for beauties like Tam Quoc Dien Nghia, it seems that in Ngoa Long, fighting for the power of medicinal herbs is more interesting than competing for beauties. Again, not only Lu Bu and Dieu Chuan had their identities changed, so did Vien Thieu and Chan Mi.
First, let’s talk about age, the timeline of Ngoa Long occurred from the Yellow Turban uprising in 184 to Vien Thieu’s death in 202. The main character saved Chan Mi when the eunuch Truong Nhuong died, ie. year 189. So in terms of actual age, in that year, Chan Mat was only about 6-7 years old. Yet the image of Chan Mat is a completely mature girl, the color of the country is heavenly.
It sounds fictional, but that’s not the end. According to history, after Chan Mi grew up, she was married to Vien Thieu’s second son, Vien Xi. Thus, the relationship of Vien Thieu and Chan Mat must be father-in-law and daughter-in-law. However, when entering Ngoai Long, we will see that after saving Chan Mi, Vien Thieu almost fell in love with the beauty right away.
Even then, he kept Chan Mat by his side, so maybe this is the story of a beautiful bride and a lucky father-in-law? Vien Thieu in the game has completely usurped the throne of Cao Cao’s expert in snatching other people’s wives? This topic is a bit of a violation of fine customs, so I’ll just present it here, the rest you can do your own research to get the appropriate answer!
Again, similar to Chan Mat, if you follow the Three Kingdoms of Dien Nghia, during the period of Crouching, Dai Kieu was still just a little girl, but we can see that Dai Kieu in the game is quite developed. At least a grown woman. According to Tam Quoc Dien Nghia, Dai Kieu and Ton Sach met after Ton Sac became acquainted with Chu Du and went to Kieu Gia Trang together.
But in the game Dai Kieu becomes the adopted daughter of Ton Kien and the adopted sister of Ton Sach. I don’t know if there is a DLC in the future, does Team Ninja intend to bring the story of Cao Cao coveting the beauty of the Kieu sisters, so he caused the battle of Red Bich into the game? I only know that at the present time, I find Cao Cao in the game still decent and boring. At least there is no sign of covetousness for other people’s wives.
It can be seen that even though it is an adaptation, Team Ninja may be overreacting when it is ready to split the love interest. They turn lovers into extremely pure social brotherhood. I wonder if the publisher intentionally did this to make the FA brothers feel less lonely?
In addition to the above details, although sometimes the crabs are a bit harsh, details such as Lu Bu’s handling of Dong Trac, Xiahou Don turning into one-eyed Don or the battles of Cao – Lu, Cao – Vien are still preserved. bring many interesting experiences, both strange and familiar.
Again, when mentioning the Three Kingdoms, everyone must immediately think of the magic magic – Zhuge Liang and of course Zhuge Liang also appear in Ngoa Long. Specifically, the blind teenager we meet at the beginning of the game is the young Zhuge Liang. That is also the reason that the first beast the main character receives is a dragon or more precisely, Crouching Dragon, one of Zhuge Liang’s famous nicknames.
According to the series of events in the game, Zhuge Liang was turned into Evil Dragon by Vu Cat and controlled until the end of the game. So the game is difficult not because we are chickens, the game is difficult because Zhuge Liang is working on the enemy side. But when the famous Zhuge Kong Minh is on his side, sometimes the game also ends from the beginning of the game.
