Vietnamese films that go in a “sensational” direction disappoint many audiences because of their sketchy and rough scripts.
Live: Stream Live is the latest film project directed by Khuong Ngoc. Previously, this 8x director – actor had helmed a few works but were not highly appreciated such as Love Is To Use Trick (2016), Strange Green Forest Story (2017).
The first part tells about the battle between two girls who specialize in mukbang, Truc (Ngoc Phuoc) and Emi (Ngan 98). The following part focuses on the story of reviewer Hoang (Quoc Khanh) – a person who reviews and comments on restaurants.
The media largely underestimated the film’s content, pointing out many errors in both the script and the way the characters were built. Many newspapers and fanpages specializing in movies even called this a “Vietnamese movie disaster” with poor quality.
This happened with the movie Fanti directed by Andy Nguyen not long ago.
Fanti is the only Vietnamese film to hit theaters in Summer 2023. The film with the participation of People’s Artist Le Khanh received many mixed opinions because of serious shortcomings in the content. During the media screening of the work at the end of July in Ho Chi Minh City, director Andy Nguyen admitted that the work was not yet fully developed in the script.
Fanti once created a lot of disappointment for Vietnamese audiences.
After a week of release, the work only earned 1.6 billion VND, according to Box Office Vietnam – an independent box office control unit. The film had to leave theaters early when viewers reflected that the script “got worse towards the end”.
Fanti is a rare Vietnamese film that boldly follows the thriller genre, exploiting the topic of digital obsession of young people who want to venture into showbiz glory.
The debut work of director Andy Nguyen brings together a cast of beautiful young actors including Thao Tam, Ho Thu Anh, Vo Dien Gia Huy, Cong Duong and a veteran name in the acting industry – People’s Artist Le Khanh.
Two Vietnamese films following the thriller-dramatic genre both encountered many contradictions regarding the script.
Filmmakers in Vietnam are gradually trying new, prominent film genres such as biographical films, dramatic films or zombie films. However, the relatively weak script made these experiences worse in the eyes of the public.
A movie fails not only because of the script, but also many other factors. However, this is the key step. These films are considered to have a messy structure, a simple plot but too many errors, a lack of logic and looseness in many details.
Audiences support breakthroughs, but filmmakers need to be more meticulous and refined. Especially with movies that are not the familiar “taste” of Vietnamese audiences.
