In Dragon Ball Super, although it seemed like Goku was at his peak, it turns out there was still a level of growth in his power that was left untapped. It is about going through the Unleashing Potential ceremony.
In “Dragon Ball Z”, Gohan underwent a lengthy ritual with Elder Kaioshin, unleashing his hidden potential and achieving a powerful ultimate form, superior to Super Saiyans. Then evolved into Gohan Beast form in “Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero”.
Elder Kaioshin reveals that he can unleash Goku’s potential, just like he did with Gohan
Interestingly, Goku never applied this technique, even though the opportunity came before the Tournament of Power. In episode 91 of “Dragon Ball Super”, while planning his training, Goku considered elder Kaioshin’s offer to perform the ritual, but was stopped by Shin due to time constraints. Although Goku appeared interested, he never followed through with this plan.
Unleashing his potential can help Goku surpass Ultra Instinct – Goku’s current strongest state. As seen with Gohan and Piccolo, this version could lead to a unique transformation for Goku.
With ever-increasing challenges, like the fight against Black Frieza in the manga, the need for greater power becomes more urgent and unleashing his potential could be the key.
Integrating the “Unleash Potential” technique into Goku was complicated because it was originally designed to differentiate Gohan from his father. However, after some events in the Super Hero storyline, it would be reasonable for Goku to reconsider this new approach to power. This would also help connect the Super Hero story to previous events in Dragon Ball Super.
