Electronic Arts is reportedly gearing up to announce several major games from its most popular franchises in July 2022.
Electronic Arts is one of a number of companies that have decided to skip June’s big game announcement events and confirmed that they won’t be holding an EA Play event this year. Instead the company says it will announce its upcoming games for 2022 “when they’re ready”. June may not fit the company’s schedule, but it looks like July would be a much better time. EA is reportedly planning to separately announce three major games in July, including FIFA, Need for Speed, and Skate titles.
According to insider Tom Henderson, all three games are slated to be announced in July 2022. As noted, there isn’t an event scheduled for the games to be shown, but rather. Announcements will come in the form of individual announcements. Specific dates for each announcement were not provided in the report, but Henderson said FIFA and Need for Speed announcements are expected in the second half of July.
FIFA 23 is a game that most fans of the franchise are familiar with, and an announcement about the game is more than expected. Some important details about the game have been confirmed by EA, for example FIFA 23 will include both men’s and women’s tournaments, including World Cup tournaments for both sexes. EA has also previously said that FIFA 23 will feature full crossplay, a feature the company tested in FIFA 22. Perhaps most importantly, this is the last EA football game to have the FIFA name, the following games in 2023 will be known as EA Sports FC.
Skate is another game that has been officially confirmed by EA before. Skate sequel was confirmed during the EA Play online showcase in June 2020, even though it was still in very early development at the time. The title is often referred to as Skate 4, even if the official name has not been announced, this game will be the first new Skate game released since 2010.
The new Need for Speed will be the most exciting announcement of the three titles. Codemasters which was recently acquired by EA also confirmed that they are working on a new Need for Speed with Criterion earlier this year. There are a lot of interesting questions surrounding the new Need for Speed, such as whether it really has an “anime element” or if it’s just a rumor.
Fans of the FIFA, Need for Speed and Skate series probably won’t have to wait long for more information if this report is true. July is just a few days away, and even if the announcements won’t arrive by the end of the month, EA will likely release the necessary information in the near future.
