In a recent interview, Elizabeth Olsen spoke out against criticism aimed at Marvel and the superhero movie line.
Elizabeth Olsen is currently feeling extremely disgruntled that major filmmakers like Martin Scorsese and Francis Ford Coppola have negative reviews of the Marvel franchise. Sharing with The Independent, “Scarlet Witch” is really disappointed when there are still people who see Marvel as not a cinematic art form, specifically Elizabeth confided:
“I don’t think we’re doing indie art films like the others, but I think those comments are really underestimating our team, which really upsets me.”
She added: “Our crew has a lot of good people, from the set design, the setting, the costume design, the filming crew, etc., are all great people. I feel such criticism is disrespectful to them, and they are already featured in award-winning films.”
“From an actor’s point of view, anything, yeah I understand, there are many ways to make different movies based on their creativity. However, just looking at it from a subjective perspective and affirming that Marvel is not an art form or not a cinema is to underestimate the efforts of hundreds of talents in the film crew.
Olsen concluded: “That’s what makes me so upset.”
Previously, director Martin Scorsese had made a few statements about current movie trends and said that Marvel movies are not cinema. During a press conference with Empire, legendary Hollywood director Martin Scorsese talked about his experience with Marvel’s superhero movies:
“I didn’t watch them all, I tried, but it’s not a movie. Honestly, the closest thing I can think of when I watch these movies, no matter how well they’re made, how the actors try their best in the situations, they still just a kind of “theme park”. It is not a movie used to convey emotions and psychological experiences from person to person.”
After Martin Scorsese’s statement, there was a debate that broke out and debated whether the MCU movies are really like Martin Scorsese’s opinion? Of course, for most fans, Martin Scorsese’s statement is disrespectful and mercilessly stoned. Among the actors, there were also mixed opinions when many people voiced their support for the famous director, but also many famous names expressed their objections.
