After a long delay, Nightdive Studios’ Blade Runner: Enhanced Edition is coming out much sooner than fans might expect.
In 2020, Nightdive Studios, the developer of the upcoming System Shock remake, announced an ambitious remake of the classic 1997 PC adventure game Blade Runner. This project aims to bring the title from Westwood Studios – which pioneered many of the mechanics and elements used in later 3D adventure games for the first time on consoles after reworking and preserving it’s for newer audiences. Blade Runner: Enhanced Edition has run into some troubles and has been delayed indefinitely since its 2020 release time, and now it looks like the game will suddenly hit modern platforms next week.
Blade Runner is a 1997 3D adventure game based on the 1982 Ridley Scott film inspired by Phillip K. Dick’s novel – Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? The game’s story parallels the original film, which also takes place in a backward Los Angeles in November 2019, but instead follows a Blade Runner named Ray McCoy, who is tasked with hunting a… group of fake Replicant like the main character of the movie is Rick Deckard. The game features several characters and actors from the movie such as Sean Young as Rachael and uses parts of the iconic hit composed by Greek musician Vangelis.
Nightdive Studios, responsible for many critically acclaimed remakes in recent years including Doom 64, Quake and Shadow Man Remastered, announced in 2020 that they would be remaking Westwood’s original title and bringing it to modern platforms in partnership with Blade Runner studio Alcon Entertainment. This announcement comes in conjunction with the release of the AI-unscaled 4K remaster of the game’s opening cutscene. However, Blade Runner: Enhanced Edition was later postponed indefinitely due to technical issues, which the CEO of Nightdive claimed was due to a lack of archival source code, which resulted in the developer having to rebuild the game. in KEX engine – Engine used for previous remakes.
Now, after a brief appearance in the Limited Run Games LRG3 showcase, Blade Runner: Enhanced Edition is back with a release date of June 23, 2022 across all major digital stores. The game will have a confirmed Nintendo Switch size of 3.7GB. The remake is now introducing enhanced visuals across the entire project, including recreated and enhanced cinemagraphs, which now also run at 60fps compared to the 15fps original. seconds, modern gamepad support, anisotropic texture filtering, and SMAA Anti-Aliasing.
