In episode 6 of Deep Insanity, a catastrophic mission puts the future of the Sleeper Squad in jeopardy and proves that no one in Asylum is safe.
Kodoani.com – The time for the assassination mission on Exile El-Cee has finally come for Commander Vera Rustamova and the Sleeper Squad under her command, with success thanks to the abilities of newcomer Daniel Shigure. Vera meets squad leader Leslie Blanc before going on a mission, presenting a good luck charm in a strangely affectionate gesture from her hitherto cold commander. Leslie admits the act left a big mistake due to the mission in Episode 6 how it happens.
Daniel’s companions on the field, Larry Jackson and Reika Kobato, are in the dark when it comes to their true purpose in infiltrating an Exile town. Deep Insanity further expands the world of Asylum and the lives of the Exiles, first portraying them as nomadic people in small oases but now branching out into more monstrous human races. At the same time, it is revealed that the Exiles also lived in towns and had the society’s religious organization as well as weapons, historical sites and castles on par with the surface. These revelations make it clear that Asylum exploration and exploitation is a simple matter of colonialism, but Deep Madness leaves no time for ethical discussion. Leslie, Larry and Reika break into an Exile den dressed as servants and Daniel puts himself in the shoes of a sniper.
Whether Daniel can assassinate El-Cee on his own remains a question since he learns who his target is. Will he side with the team he spent the first half of the show risking his life on, or will he fail his mission and put them in danger after a few moments with an Exile kid? ? Luckily for Daniel, Hayden’s sudden appearance prevented him from making that particular choice.
Ever since his introduction in Deep Insanity, Hayden and his assistant Nadia have always been a threat to the Sleeper Squad. Hayden brought out his full force in the battle against Leslie. The fight puts the two in Daniel’s sights and instead of choosing whether to kill El-Cee or not, he shoots Hayden to save Leslie’s life. Hayden withdrew and the Sleeper Squad called the mission a failure.
However, the lack of a stroke of luck still plays a role. The team is attacked by an Asylum creature as they retreat, but Leslie is able to distract it from the others. Hayden managed one more trick as he retreated on his own, shooting Leslie from the air and sending them tumbling into the depths of Asylum while the Sleepers watched, helpless and terrified. Not only did the assassination fail, but Leslie – a devoted captain and always supportive of Vera – was lost due to Hayden and his ability to infiltrate Asylum.
This loss shatters what Sleeper Squad viewers have known so far, and what they will do from here is completely unknown. Leslie’s death heralds a whole new chapter in Deep Insanity, one where each member of the squad will have to step up and hopefully be the place where Vera herself will begin to take charge.
