A petition on Change.org sent to Isayama was titled, “Make a better ending, replacing AOT!” currently has 5,597 signatures at the time of writing. The petition’s preamble reads: “Currently, Shingeki no Kyojin (or Attack on Titan ) is one of the best manga I’ve ever read. I believe a lot of fandoms are very disappointed with the current ending, which feels the same to me and to many fandoms. “
The petition text goes on to list some detailed, spoiler-filled criticism of the ending’s treatment of certain characters and the sudden change in tone compared to the rest of the series. . It is further speculated that the publisher Kodansha or the editor of Isayama was responsible for the changes “perhaps more in keeping with the ‘shounen’ ending.” It also emphasizes that fans should not harass Isayama for their disappointment with the ending.
