Details regarding former Rockstar producer Leslie Benzies’ Everywhere game confirm that it’s an open-world AAA title.
In 2018, former Rockstar Games producer Leslie Benzies announced that he was opening a new studio called Build a Rocket Boy Games. The studio’s first project would be named Everywhere, but very little was revealed about the game at the time. With Benzies’ experience being such a big part of the success of the modern Grand Theft Auto 5 title, community expectations for his new title are high. Now, details about the project are being revealed, and it’s clear that both Benzies and Build a Rocket Boy Games have high expectations for Everywhere.
The leaked details come from Galaxy Interactive, an investment firm that helped fund Build a Rocket Boy Games. In a widely published presentation on Galaxy Interactive’s website, the company shared some details about Build a Rocket Boy Games’ Everywhere project. Everywhere’s “creative ideas” are particularly interesting, with Galaxy Interactive referring to the game as a “real-life” Ready Player One.
Of course, Ready Player One is referring to the sci-fi novel and movie adaptation of the same name. In Ready Player One, characters enter a virtual reality world filled with games, social interactions, and more, with the virtual world already being the replacement of the real world for many people. . Everywhere may not be a virtual reality game, but there is a clear indication that it will be a large world with a variety of content to appeal to a wide audience of gamers.
That idea is somewhat confirmed in the remaining details revealed about Everywhere by Galaxy Interactive. Everywhere is confirmed as an open world AAA multiplayer game experience. Furthermore, it will be built to be a world of user-generated content. Galaxy Interactive explains that “players can create their own worlds,” powered by social and streaming systems. The description suggests how to play similar to Minecraft, Roblox, Grand Theft Auto Online or even VR Chat games.
However, unlike VR Chat, the description also mentions a “multi-chapter epic storyline” that will be included in this open world game. That seems to suggest that Everywhere will be more like Grand Theft Auto and Grand Theft Online than VR Chat or Roblox, which makes sense considering Benzies’ background and experience.
One thing is clear, Build a Rocket Boy Games is quite ambitious. This is a new studio working on a big game, something that even established studios struggle with. Even Rockstar has been heavily criticized for its unhealthy culture and work environment despite its experience creating massive AAA open-world games. It may be years before Everywhere goes public, but expectations for the game both from the gaming community and the gaming industry will be high.
