The highest-grossing mobile game in Southeast Asia for December 2022 was Moonton’s Mobile Legends: Bang Bang with nearly $13.2 million in player spending, up 1.5% year-over-year. 35.8% of Mobile Legends: Bang Bang’s revenue in Southeast Asia is from Indonesia, followed by 25.1% from Malaysia and 20.8% from the Philippines.
Garena Free Fire (including Garena Free Fire MAX) was the second highest earning mobile game in Southeast Asia in December 2022 with nearly $7.9 million in user spending. 42.1% of Garena Free Fire’s revenue in Southeast Asia is from Thailand, followed by 32.2% from Indonesia and 15.7% from Malaysia.
The next highest-grossing mobile games were Genshin Impact, Roblox, and Tencent’s Lien Quan. The Southeast Asian mobile games market generated an estimated $218 million from player spending on the App Store and Google Play in December 2022, marking a decline of about 1% year-over-year. The #1 market for Southeast Asia revenue in December 2022 was Thailand, generating $49 million, or 22.6% of total player spending in Southeast Asia. Indonesia ranked second in terms of revenue with 17.9%, followed by Singapore with 17.8%.
Tencent’s PUBG Mobile generated over $4 million in Southeast Asia, up 71% month-on-month. This is also the highest monthly increase in the Top 10. The spike in sales coincided with the release of RPM Season 18, which introduced two different skins. In December, Malaysia accounted for 42% of PUBG Mobile player spending in Southeast Asia, followed by Thailand with 20.5% and Indonesia in third with 12.9%.
