FromSoftware confirmed their next game is in the final stages of development and that they are working on ‘many new projects’.
While many Elden Ring gamers have already completed the game at this point, the community is beginning to wonder what the developers will bring next. FromSoftware has confirmed that they have multiple Elden Ring updates in the works, and the DLC is yet to be seen. But FromSoftware isn’t the type of developer to just focus on the latest and greatest forever.
Under the leadership of Hidetaka Miyazaki, FromSoftware tends to focus more on new IPs and upcoming titles than trying to stick to one IP with sequels. This can play some role in FromSoftware’s development cycle as the company typically makes about two different games in different stages of development at the same time. Dark Souls 2, Bloodborne, Dark Souls 3, Sekiro — their release dates in 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2019 respectively show how the company executes its titles. While it seems like there’s always something going on secretly at FromSoftware, the company is taking its way of doing things to the next level.
FromSoftware recently posted on Twitter revealing that they are hiring for a variety of game development positions. The job posting says they’re looking forward to working with new people on FromSoftware games, and the games don’t seem like they’re necessarily in the Soulsborne genre. What’s really interesting is that the post says they’re hiring for “many new projects”.
Furthermore, Miyazaki confirmed that one of those projects is an unpublished game already in the final stages of development. This game probably won’t release right away in 2022, but more information will be revealed later this year and the game will be out in the next year or two. Miyazaki also reiterated that work on Elden Ring is not done yet, and that he will continue to focus directly on developing the games.
After the success of Elden Ring, working on many new projects could be a smart move. FromSoftware has defined a whole genre of games and their games have been loved all over the world. It’s hard to say for sure what the next works will be, but knowing that there are more titles at FromSoftware will be good news for gamers who love the developer.
However, gamers should not expect too much from this announcement. As the number of games is larger, the game development process will also take longer. FromSoftware’s next game could be a year or two away, not to mention the possibility that these projects aren’t Bloodborne Remaster, Bloodborne 2, Sekiro 2, or anything like that. Again, FromSoftware would much rather make new IPs interesting than stick to a few IPs to make sequels better or worse. The company’s way of doing things really brings “newness” in “many new projects”.
