While FromSoftware is best known for its Souls-Like titles, the team’s first ever title Evergrace deserves a Remake.
In recent years, it’s hard to imagine a game from FromSoftware that fails. However, Evergrace was one of the group’s first attempts at getting into the JRPG genre. The game had a hard time releasing and receiving little reception, but it’s still a perfect candidate for FromSoftware to consider for a remake remake.
It is important to emphasize that for Evergrace to be successful, FromSoftware must completely remake everything inside the game, not redo it in a simple, superficial way that can make an impression. Evergrace can have many problems but to fix them is still relatively easy, they now know how to make a game really attractive.
One of the biggest problems plaguing Evergrace is the relatively lackluster combat system, and it’s hard to imagine that FromSoftware would struggle to fix this. By being able to borrow from recent titles, FromSoftware is able to combine classic JRPG gameplay with the gameplay of the Souls-Like series to create a truly unique experience. So Evergrace is of course suitable for FromSoftware’s modern combat systems.
Although Evergrace shares a lot of similarities with many Souls-Like titles, developing the game is a different matter. They had to build and innovate to make Evergrace more trendy than the previous PlayStation 2 era. They even had to change the entire gameplay structure just to make it more attractive. Evergrace’s strongest point is about how to build a world that has similar appeal to Souls-Like. If the success is likely to be a second Elden Ring, because it shows FromSoftware is not only one of the developers of the best gameplay mechanics, but also builds a true open world.
With a messy, and sometimes laggy combat system that prevented players from reaching Evergrace, the game never quite lived up to its story. Although Evergrace has never had the most compelling storyline in the JRPG village, the game’s foundation is a solid thing for FromSoftware to develop to create a masterpiece.
