INTERNATIONAL_ From the perspective of Finnish game maker Rovio, games are still the highest grossing sector in the EU today.
Rovio, a popular Finnish game company, recently released its financial report for 2021. The European gaming company raked in record gaming revenue, but profits fell. However, the game maker still left its mark with the new game Angry Birds Journey.
The key figures for the full year are reported as follows: the company’s annual revenue of 286.2 million euros, an increase of 5.1% compared to 2020. At the same time, operating profit decreased by 11.3%. to 37.7 million euros, EBITDA also fell 15.4% to 50.8 million euros.
Game revenue in the EU still accounts for the highest proportion.
Of which, 96.5% of Rovio’s revenue comes from games. The airline brought in a record 276.4 million euros, up 7% over the same period last year. Angry Birds 2 is the highest paying game of 2021. Its revenue for the year amounted to 107.9 million euros. Spending on UA was 77.2 million euros, or 27.9% of game revenue. This number is 31.5% higher than in 2020.
The key figures for the fourth quarter from the company are as follows: Rovio’s fourth-quarter revenue was €78.9 million, up 15.2% year-on-year. Profit from business immediately increased by 174.1 percent compared to the fourth quarter of 2020. The game reached 8.1 million euros. EBITDA (profit after tax) also increased by 9.7% to 13.4 million euros. Rovio earned 76.5 million euros from games in the fourth quarter, up 18.8% from a year ago.
Angry Birds 2 also became the highest-grossing game of the quarter. The game’s revenue reached 29.5 million euros in three months, up 12.5% year-on-year. This was followed by Angry Birds Dream Blast (16.2 million euros) and Angry Birds Friends (9.3 million euros).
Casual games are a popular genre.
The revenue of Angry Birds Dream Blast is currently 180 million euros. The game was released in 2019.Angry Birds Journey, which was released globally on January 20, 2022, made a good profit in the fourth quarter of last year of 3.1 million euros. Rovio expects Angry Birds Journey sales to surpass 40 million euros by the end of the year, and the game’s DAU to hit the 500,000 mark.
The number of daily active users in all Rovio games in Q4 was 6.5 million. The DAU of the company’s top 5 games reached 3.2 million people. For comparison, in the fourth quarter of 2020, these numbers were 4.4 million and 3.2 million people, respectively. The number of unique players per month across all titles is 485,000.
