The end of Gears of War 5 makes Gears of War 6 inevitable a decision that greatly affects the future of the series.
It’s been three years since Gears of War fans got to enjoy Gears 5, the latest installment in the 10-year cult third-person shooter series. Given the series’ popularity, Gears 6 is inevitable, although the game has yet to be officially revealed. Whenever Microsoft pulls the curtain back on Gears 6, they will have to answer a big question posed by the end of Gears 5. The Gears of War series has mostly stuck to linear storytelling over the years, but Gears 5 is an exception. Things are different until the very last minute, at which point the player must make a decision that changes the fates of two of the game’s main characters. At the end of Gears of War 5, Reyna captures JD and Del, leaving Kait Diaz to choose who lives and who dies.
Gears 5’s ending plays out slightly differently depending on who dies. If JD dies, Marcus is obviously a little sadder about it because JD is his son. Conversely, if Del died, then Marcus would comfort his son in his grief. Both endings could lead to an impetus to create another potential character in Gears 6. However, that means it will take a lot of extra work on the development side.
Whatever the case may be, it could be a while before Gears of War fans see what Gears 6 has to offer.
