Genshin Impact, the groundbreaking first mobile title from miHoYo, has hit a new sales record. In the first two years of being on the market, gamers spent $ 3.7 billion on this game.
According to Sensor Tower data, Genshin Impact ranks third in mobile spending since its release two years ago. This title is second only to Honor of Kings and PUBG Mobile (including spending on the Chinese version, Peacekeeper Elite). Over the same two-year period, Honor of Kings earned $5.5 billion while PUBG Mobile made $4.9 billion.
Thus, Genshin Impact is the most successful mobile IP launch since Honor of Kings. Despite earning slightly less in year two ($1.7 billion) than year one ($2 billion), overall the game is defying market trends. As global mobile game spending declined in Q1 and Q2, Genshin Impact’s revenue grew 16% and 28%, respectively.

Sensor Tower points out that Genshin Impact is the most successful game that uses gacha for profit. The product has earned more than 2-3 combo games in the same time period. This is partly because Genshin Impact has managed to build loyal player bases in some of the most lucrative markets globally. The top three markets are China (33%), Japan (24%), and the US (17%).
Genshin Impact’s spending by platform is relatively even between the App Store and Google Play. In China, the App Store accounts for 68% of spending. However, Sensor Tower does not track spending on popular third-party Android stores in China.
Genshin Impact is one of many successful Chinese-developed titles outside of its home market. Mobile-PC cross-play and regular content updates featuring popular new characters have led many to top-up.

HoYoverse’s critically acclaimed Genshin game Impact will host its first official art exhibition called Endless Adventures in Teyvat in Paris, taking place at Galerie Joseph, 7 Rue Froissart.
