The PC port of God of War is being particularly well received by players, currently sitting at an impressive 13th on the Steam Charts.
The PC version of God of War has been highly anticipated since it was first announced, as many PC gamers were interested to see if the hype behind the game made sense. God of War’s current Steam player count suggests a lot of PC players are delving deeper into the game’s depiction of Norse mythology.
On January 16, God of War had over 73,000 concurrent players. This is an impressive feat, with the game already ranked 13th in the top games category by current player count on Steam Charts. The game has more simultaneous players than popular multiplayer shooter Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege and hit 4v1 game Dead by Daylight. God of War was only narrowly defeated by Amazon’s New World, which has 77,000 active players.
These exceptional numbers will hopefully spur Sony to move more of its proprietary products to PCs in the future. Their other former exclusive titles like Horizon Zero Dawn also enjoyed similar levels of success at launch. The decision to start porting PlayStation-exclusive games to PC appeared to come under pressure from developers at Sony, who saw the potential profit from the idea. This idea has turned a significant profit for the company, and one can’t help but wonder if this has encouraged Sony to make nearly all of its games timed exclusivity.
The game’s support from the PC community could also be the result of God of War’s director encouraging players to make mods for the game. Cory Barlog – game director, says that they plan to support mods in the future. However, Barlog did say that this could take some time as the systems used to create the game are quite complex. The support for ultrawide screens for God of War on PC also attracted interest from the PC community. According to Matt Dewald, God of War’s senior technical production manager, ultrawide support is hard to come by because developers have to go through the entire game and manually tweak anything that doesn’t seem right. .
The success of God of War on PC is just the beginning for the Playstation in 2022. The highly anticipated Horizon Zero Dawn sequel will release in February as well as the God of War sequel, despite the release date. for the latter has yet to be announced. PlayStation gamers have a lot to look forward to this year, and PC gamers have an exciting future ahead of them if Sony continues its trend of releasing PC-exclusive games.
