The remake of the first God of War game was created using the Unreal Engine 5, bringing PlayStation’s classics in line with the modern installments of the franchise. The latest version of the popular game engine, developed and distributed by Epic Games, has been used to create some impressive fan projects since its launch in April 2022. Unreal Engine 5 was recently used to create the UE5 remake of Bully from Bullworth Academy and now the same developer has given God of War a whole new look.
Santa Monica Studio’s God of War franchise began in 2005 with an intense chop and slash adventure on the PlayStation 2. The beloved action game introduced gamers to Kratos, a tattooed Greek demigod. , who begins a journey of revenge after the death of his family. In some games, Kratos has completely destroyed the Greek gods, with 2010’s God of War 3 introducing the story. However, a new God of War game released in 2018 gave the franchise a fresh start, with Kratos now living in the world of Norse mythology with his young son Atreus. The upcoming release of God of War Ragnarok will follow up on the 2018 game, seemingly bringing the franchise’s Nordic storyline to an epic conclusion.
Talented YouTuber and developer TeaserPlay recently showcased the impressive God of War Unreal Engine 5 remake. The project beautifully recreates the world of Greek mythology, including dazzling cities and intricate temples. The God of War remake also seems to adopt the gameplay style of the newer installments of the franchise, with the camera placed near the back of Kratos instead of the fixed camera angles as before. While the character models and animations are a bit rough, this first teaser video successfully recreates the atmosphere and grandeur of God of War through Unreal Engine 5.
While TeaserPlay has begun rebuilding God of War, another developer is working on a remake of Silent Hill in Unreal Engine 5. The classic survival horror game emphasizes atmosphere and psychological fear. and Epic Games’ new engine brings the classic version of Konami to life with incredible resolution. The project adds extra detail to every nook and cranny of Silent Hill while seemingly keeping the original gameplay of this terrifying title intact. The remake of UE5 looks especially impressive in the dark areas and the horrors lurking in them.
The original God of War is still impressive to this day, but TeaserPlay’s Unreal Engine 5 remake truly captures the beauty and grandeur of the Greek world. The video seems to lean heavily on newer installments of the franchise, like Ragnarok, while remaining faithful to the first installment in the series. While the video doesn’t show the actual gameplay, TeaserPlay’s video shows how the official remake can satisfy gamers.
