To increase the authenticity of the film, the “father” of the series – author Eiichiro Oda – was invited to participate in producing and writing the script.
In an interview with the New York Time, author Oda said: “Actually, at first, I did not think that adapting One Piece into a live-action version would bring value to the entire brand. I only changed my mind after watching Shaolin Soccer. That movie gave me the feeling like I was watching a live-action adaptation of a manga (comic book).”
“The success and influence of the Shaolin Soccer Team has changed my perception. I understand that current technology is fully capable of adapting the details of the One Piece comic and creating a successful live-action version. Therefore, I am looking for a partner to turn my vision into reality,” said author Oda.
