The Half-Life series is no longer being continued, but some footage from a defunct Arkane Studios project has just been revealed.
While the Alyx games have been welcomed by Half-Life fans looking for a new installment in the series, many other gamers would love to see a sequel to the series featuring the series’ first protagonist. is Gordon Freeman. As one of the best FPS games of all time, 2004’s Half-Life 2 took over from Valve’s first game and took things even further. Unfortunately, Half-Life 3 was never released, but some recently revealed footage shows that there is still another Half-Life game that has been canceled and cannot reach gamers. .
In a video uploaded to the NoClip YouTube channel, host Danny showcased an hour of footage from a new Half-Life game. This is the work of the studio behind the Dishonored, Prey reboot, and Deathloop titles, Arkane Studios. Called “Ravenholm”, the game will be set in a ghost town familiar to fans of the series. Danny made it clear that the game was still in early development at the time, so there was a lot of unrolled content and unoptimized frame rates, but these leftover footage is a piece of cake. An interesting look at a work that almost could have been released for gamers to enjoy.
It looks like the game will be a successful sequel if Valve allows it to be released. The game will add some new things to the gameplay of the game, such as the ability to knock down enemies. For those perhaps not too familiar with the series, Half-Life 2’s abandoned mining town Ravenholm is one of the most memorable levels in the entire series. It quickly turns the game into a true horror experience with some terrifying monsters. This part of the game from Arkane Studios will not have the participation of Mr. Freeman, but the footage suggests it will feature the return of Father Grigori.
Images from the title were also published a few years ago by the same channel, with tweets posted showing images or gifs of the game. Ravenholm was in development from 2006 to 2007, however the project was eventually abandoned, and the only real evidence of what was left of the title was the extended footage NoClip provided.
At this stage, many gamers probably have to accept the fact that Half-Life 3 will no longer be able to be released. It’s one of the most anticipated games in the gaming industry, but it’s been too long since the last part came out and Valve doesn’t seem interested in continuing the story they left off. Ravenholm’s footage is ironically another tease for gamers about the fact that the original Half-Life series will never be born again.
