According to the analysis of the 2023 Mobile Game Industry IP Development Report organized by the China Game Industry Research Institute, game product quality has a decisive impact on user choice. Enhancing R&D power and creating high-quality IP is an important foundation for collaborative cooperation and technological exchange.
The report provides an overview of 6 aspects: China’s overall mobile game IP market, original IP mobile game market, imported authorized IP mobile game segment, game group mobile IP transformation across many fields, IP gamer situation and mobile game IP market trends.
The report divides the mobile game IP market in the mainland into three parts: mobile game IP market, authorized mobile game IP market, and mobile game IP adaptation market. In it, experts say the original IP refers to the definition of being created by Chinese game companies; Authorized imported IP means the game IP is imported from abroad.
The revenue structure of the mobile game market as of September this year, the actual revenue of the mobile game IP market was 132.206 billion yuan, accounting for 77.70% of the total mobile game market. Among them, original IP accounts for 42.69%, import authorization IP accounts for 28.18%, and combined IP accounts for 6.83%.
IP game products in the mainland accounted for 60%, an increase of 5.86% over the same period last year. Regarding IP type, 41.31% comes from client games and 38.77% comes from mobile games. From January to September this year, the actual revenue of the original IP mobile game market was 72.629 billion yuan, the highest in the past 4 years, and the annual revenue is expected to reach a record high green.
Among the original IP products, a total of 26 products entered the list of the 100 largest mobile game products by revenue. As of September this year, the actual revenue of the imported authorized IP mobile game market was 47.95 billion yuan, accounting for 28.18% of the total IP mobile game market. Although the growth rate of imported licensed IP is not as fast as original IP, it still maintains steady growth during the game market decline in 2022.
Among the IPs authorized for import, a total of 21 products entered the top 100 list. Among them, 70.45% came from client games and 19.95% came from independent games. As of September 2023, the actual revenue of the multi-field IP adaptation mobile game market was 11.627 billion yuan, accounting for 6.83% of the total mobile game IP market, and the scale has decreased.
Looking at specific IP sources, public copyright and literary work IP both come from China; Among animated IP adaptations, 48.48% come from animated IP in mainland China.
In recent years, the scale of IP mobile game players has continued to expand with more than 190 million users and 230 million comprehensive user groups.
